Your child was assessed. But do you really understand what the results mean?
When another provider’s assessment leaves you with more questions than answers, a specialist consultation with Dr. Lucero can help you see the full picture – especially through the lens of giftedness and twice-exceptionality.

Is This Your Situation?
Your child has already been tested by the school, a private clinician, or another practice. But something feels off. The report didn’t fully capture who your child is. Key pieces seem to be missing. Or you walked away from the feedback session still wondering: what does this actually mean for my child?
This is more common than you might think — especially when a child is gifted or twice-exceptional (2e).
Accurately assessing gifted and 2e individuals is a highly specialized skill. Many talented and well-meaning evaluators simply don’t have deep expertise in the complexities of giftedness, how it interacts with learning differences, or how it can mask – or be masked by – conditions like ADHD, dyslexia, or autism. As a result, assessments sometimes miss the mark, and families are left trying to make important decisions with an incomplete understanding of their child.
What Is an Assessment Consultation at PEAK?
An Assessment Consultation is not a new evaluation. It is a focused, one-on-one session with Dr. Lucero – a specialist in gifted and twice-exceptional assessment – designed to help you fully understand an existing report.
Dr. Lucero will review the assessment your child has already received and provide expert insight into what the findings really mean, with specific attention to factors related to giftedness, twice-exceptionality, and neurodivergence that may have been overlooked or misinterpreted.
You will leave the consultation with:
- A clear, plain-language explanation of your child’s test results
- An understanding of how giftedness or twice-exceptionality may be shaping the overall picture
- Insight into patterns, strengths, and challenges that the original report may have underemphasized
- A better foundation for making informed decisions about your child’s education and support
- Guidance on next steps, and referrals to appropriate resources when needed

This Consultation May Be Right for You if…
-
- Your child was tested at school or by another provider, but the feedback session felt rushed or confusing
- You suspect your child is gifted, 2e, or highly sensitive, but the assessment didn’t address this
- The diagnoses in the report don’t seem to fully capture your child, or feel incomplete
- You want an expert opinion before acting on the assessment’s recommendations
- You need a clearer understanding of the results before sharing them with your child’s teachers or school team
- A repeat evaluation isn’t feasible right now, but you still need clarity
Why a 2e Specialist Makes All the Difference
Gifted and twice-exceptional children are among the most frequently misunderstood and misdiagnosed populations in mental health and school settings. Their profiles are complex: high ability can mask learning challenges, and learning challenges can mask high ability. Standard assessments, interpreted without a deep knowledge of giftedness, often lead to incomplete conclusions – or entirely miss what is most important to understand about a child.
Dr. Lucero has spent more than 25 years specializing in the assessment of gifted, 2e, and neurodivergent individuals. She knows what to look for in a report, what questions to ask, and how to translate clinical findings into actionable insights that truly reflect your child.
