I am currently in school for my PsyD in School Psychology at the University of Colorado-Denver. I am excited to complete my externship at PEAK and further my skills in assessments. I received my B.B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Religion from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas. After graduating I decided to continue my education at Hardin-Simmons and received my M.A. in Family Psychology. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and have experience working with children, adolescents, college students, and families. My counseling experience with children is primarily based in play therapy for children who have witnessed or experienced trauma. My experience as a counselor has given me a solid foundation in understanding how trauma as well as neurodevelopmental disorders can impact behavior.
As part of my doctoral program I completed my practicum in an elementary and middle school last year, where I enhanced my skills in cognitive and behavioral assessments, as well as my skills in individual and group counseling, to facilitate a strong learning and social environment for all students. During the past year of working as a practicum student I gained a stronger understanding and respect for the importance of comprehensive assessments for students. During my time in the school system I learned how assessments can help a school develop a plan to best help the student, which helps me to create meaningful recommendations when completing private assessments.
